Post Office
There is a reference, dated 1892, to letters being collected from the wall box in the village 10-30 a.m.
In 1925, the Post Office was located at Ash Tree Farm, and was run by Jimmy Boyes.
Later it was moved to what is now called ‘The Old Post Office’ – one of Diamond Cottages. It ran there until Wednesday 29th March 2000, at which point running of the Post Office had been in Maude Smith’s family for 3 generations and Maude herself had run it for 42 years.
After Maude stopped running the Post Office, Lynne and Harry provided P.O. services in the shop at Church View for a number of years.
When Lynne retired, it was taken over by Kate Hughes. There is now (intermittently) a visiting Post Office at the Village Hall.
